Hi, my name is Donna Edwards. I have been involved in painting since I retired. I paint everyday and never tire of the challenge of transforming paint on a pallette into an image on a canvas. It is a constant pleasure to learn new techniques to create a more satisfying painting. I work on one painting at a time, and see it through to completion before starting another one. This allows me to focus my complete attention on your project. Each painting is an accurate representation of the building and individuality that the owner has given it.

Let me do a beautiful painting of a home you love or someone you know loves. I have painted homes from India to California, from British Columbia to Newfoundland, and they are all a joy to the people that own them. There are endless reasons to have a House Portrait done. I have painted for real estate agents as closing gifts, for new home owners, for seniors moving out of a family home, or as Christmas, Birthday, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and hostess gifts. Homes that are loved can evoke many memories and a painting makes a thoughtful and charming way to show that you care.

Commissions are $250.00 for standard sized paintings (12" x 16" or smaller) and over-sized paintings are priced accordingly. Phone me with any questions.

The Process of Producing a House Portrait

All paintings are from photographs which I take or you provide. If the home is in Ottawa, I will take multiple photos of the house from a variety of angles. After they are developed, we will meet to talk about the shape of stretched canvas that will suit the shape of your house and the size of the canvas. We will also talk about the elements you will want included or left out of the painting. Usually, this includes such things as overhead wires, garbage cans, or other visual distractions. At this point, you may wish to show me your own photos of people or planted features you may want added. After our meeting, I will paint your House Portrait. Each painting takes approximately 2 weeks. At our second meeting, you may suggest further changes you would like to see or you may not see the need for any changes and at that point the painting is finished.

All paintings are on stretched canvas and in acrylic paint. A final coat of varnish gives the painting a uniform gloss and protects the surface.

Payment is expected at the final presentation of the House Portrait.

"You have caught the spirit of our house, designed by my wife, in which our children grew up. Absolutely unique and wonderful." - Ken Banks

"I commisioned Donna to paint two very special portraits of a family cottage and guest house in P.E.I. Based on pictures I provided and some conversation Donna was able to capture exactly what I was looking for. Her passion, skill and creative ability really shone through." - Mary Lynn McRury

"I called Donna and asked her to paint my family home that my parents had for fifty years. It was a gift for my brothers 50th birthday. It brought back so many fond memories that I had to have another done for myself." - Karen Martin
